Converting this attic space to a bedroom and playroom was a fantastic way to meet their needs while increasing the value of their home. I would have loved to have a space like this to hang out with my friends when I was a little girl.
Katie Brown, Project Designer
We worked with this couple to convert a portion of their attic space into a new play room and bedroom for their young daughter. There was a large structural beam in the attic floor that couldn't be removed, so the custom built-in bunk beds, and closet were designed to sit on top of it in order to disguise it. The recessed book nook and shallow wall sconces provide the perfect place for her to curl up with her favorite stuffed animals and read.
ROOM TO GROW
The stairs up to the top bunk and into the closet hide the structural beam beneath them. Narrow site built shelves flanking each side of the closet door provide storage for all her favorite toys and games so there's lots of space to spread out on the floor and play. The extra bunk will be great for hosting sleepovers once she's a teenager. Now not only does this little girl have a fun new bedroom to grow into, but the attic conversion created another legal bedroom, increasing the home's resale value.
